๐ About Important Days in India
National vs International Days
India observes two types of important days: National Days โ declared by the Government of India, often tied to birth/death anniversaries of national leaders or historical events โ and International Days โ declared by the United Nations or international bodies and observed globally. National Days in India are declared by the Ministry/Department concerned or by the Prime Minister\'s Office.
How Days Are Designated
The Government of India designates national observance days through official gazette notifications or Cabinet decisions. The UN General Assembly designates international days by passing resolutions. India has proposed several international days at the UN, most notably the International Day of Yoga (June 21), which was proposed by PM Narendra Modi in 2014 and adopted with a record 177 co-sponsors.
